The Albanese Labor Government has announced that, if elected, it will invest $25 million to support 600 community language schools across Australia, benefiting more than 90,000 students learning 84 different languages.
I also received this exciting news directly from the Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, Julian Hill MP, today at approximately 5:50pm.
This is fantastic news for our community language school sector and a strong recognition of the vital role we play in preserving linguistic diversity and fostering social inclusion.
Importantly, $5 million of this funding will be dedicated to a specialist Asian languages stream, aimed at helping more students, regardless of their background, achieve fluency in Asian languages through to Years 11 and 12.
This positive outcome is the direct result of CLA's ongoing eff
orts to advocate on behalf of community language schools.
