Community Languages Australia offers a specific course for community languages teachers to help them gain a recognised qualification, skills and increase pathways into teaching.
This course will assist participants to develop necessary skills to work effectively across a range of teaching & leadership activities and provide quality outcomes for CLA schools.

Accredited Course details:
The Certificate IV in Community Languages Teaching is made up of 9 units of competency. The total hours (approximately 290) are spent in workshop activity, assessment activity and teaching practice.

VU20623 Utilise information and communication technologies (ICT) in community language teaching
Elective Units
TAEDES502A Design and develop learning resources
TAEASS401B Plan assessment activities and processes
TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools
VU20621 Design learning programs to develop the four macro skills
VU20622 Apply intercultural language teaching skills
VU20624 Teach the grammatical structures and discourse forms of community languages

What do participants get at the end of the course?

Participants who successfully complete all aspects of the program (including assessment and practical teaching activities) will obtain a Certificate IV in Community Languages Teaching.

When will the course run?

The course is expected to run from March till November 2017 with sessions scheduled mainly on a Thursday evening from 5:30-9pm (weekly). There will be approximately three (3) Saturday sessions during this semester.

How much does the course cost?

Current fees are subsided and are $475.00 for Australian permanent residents/citizens. Full fees apply to people who do not meet this requirement.

Due to the current subsidised rate, further concessions are not applicable.

Indicative costs for texts: $70.00

Who will teach the course?

The course will be managed and delivered by an expert team of educationalists drawing on expertise in a range of specialist areas.

Will there be assessment?

Assessment of learning will be undertaken through activities such as lesson plans, development of a unit of work, responses to written questions, and presentations. Some of the tasks will require the participant to trial learning and assessment materials in a community languages school setting.

An observation of teaching visit is a key part of the assessment process.

All assessment tasks must be successfully completed to be able to qualify for the Certificate IV in Community Languages Teaching.

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

Course participants may apply for RPL at the application stage. Applications will be assessed to check their eligibility for RPL. There are no additional fees for students applying for RPL.

Information about the RPL process will be available at the Information Session on 10 March 2016.

How can I find out more information about this important course?

Information sessions will be held in 6pm 27 October, 2016 at 44 University St, Carlton. Interested applicants will be invited to take a compulsory language, literacy and numeracy test that evening.
