Lance Vertigan
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that our good friend, colleague and mentor-Lance Vertigan
passed away on December 31, 2011. For those who worked with Lance you would agree that he was committed to education, worked hard, was ready to assist , advise and mentor.
He was just 'a good bloke who was great to be with, who inspired others to greater things'.

His funeral will be held on Friday January 13, 2012 at 10.00am at the Tobin Brothers Chapel,

2011 VICTORIAN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & TEACHER TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS:
- Over 250 new teachers and instructors have participated in the credit bearing Teacher Training program
- Over 1000 instructors and teachers have participated in the Professional Development Program
- Over 150 instructors and teachers have completed their First Aid Training Courses
- Close to 400 teachers and instructors attended the State Conference in Victoria in July 2011
- 40 different communities have been engaged in some form in the above activities

STATE schools that do not teach a second language will be eligible for $1 million in grants next year as the Baillieu government pushes ahead with its ambitious pledge to make learning a second language compulsory in prep from 2015.

INTERNATIONAL CUP
As you are aware the AFL is hosting the 2011 International Cup with over 24 countries represented in the competition.
The competition begins in NSW on the 15th August followed by the Melbourne leg on the 22nd August at Royal Park in Carlton.
The multicultural development officers will be hosting a super clinic with AFL players prior to the commencement of the first game on the 24th August and it would be great to see you there...

$16.3 MILLION BOOST FOR COMMUNITY LANGUAGES SCHOOLS OVER FOUR YEARS ANNOUNCED IN VICTORIAN COALITION GOVERNMENT'S 2011-12 BUDGET
Victoria' community languages schools welcomed the announcement of an increased investment of $16.3 million over the next four years for the community languages schools program
The 2011 - 12 Victorian Budget has increased per capita support by $70 .to a total of $190 per year per student.
"This is a sound investment in Victoria's social , education and economic future," Community Languages Australia's, Executive Director, Stefan Romaniw said today.

NSW RECEIVES FUNDING BOOST
NSW State Government has provided a boost for community languages schools in NSW.
This is positive news and is the result of hard work on the part of the NSWFCLS , CRC NSW, the NSWCLS Board , the schools and Community Languages Australia. Congratulations to NSWCLS on the outcome .
This is positive result and schools and students will be the winners
The recent announcements in Victoria , now NSW , the return of some funding in ACT shows the importance of national networks. It is therefore imperative that we maintain the national network that we enhance our promotional and marketing work . We now need to work with other States to obtain increases and stronger commitments.
"Community Languages Australia welcomes this boost and applauds the fact the community languages school are now seen a pillar for languages education for our children," Executive Director of Community languages Australia said today.
